Op-T-Soft
One of the last projects I delivered with Op-T-Soft was
Jefferson Smurfit - Container Corporation. We were retained to deliver a "green field" training program for a $200 million dollar startup facility that was replacing their entire production facility that was spread over 10 acres down to a single self contained building.
Our system trained hundreds of employees on each piece of equipment in that new facility. Everything from SOP (Startup, Standard Operating Procedures,Shut Down) and SMOP (Standard Maintenance and Preventative Maintenance Procedures). The project delivered on time and on budget.
The "IBM Video Server" - circa 1996
For this project at Jefferson Smurfit - Container Corporation. The design had to be a concurrent delivery system. (Meaning, many users at the same time.) The project hinged on a $20.000 server
from IBM that I recommended. It was advertised as capable of just that, delivering video over a network to multiple workstations. It did not work. I called IBM tech support. They said "Oh we could not get it to work that way either". "Store the videos locally." Uh. not good. I poked around inside the
machine and manuals and found some undocumented memory addresses, removed them from boot up and it worked. I called IBM back for some other information, well, really just to say "I did it". They asked if they could come by and see it some time. I said sure. They flew in that night (6 of them) and were at the project by 6:30AM. I gave them coffee. Click Here.
